Ms. Martino
Language Arts & Yearbook

"So please, oh PLEASE, we beg, we pray, Go throw your TV set away, And in its place you can install, A lovely bookshelf on the wall." -Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Notebook Requirements
Notebook

Your notebook has three purposes:
1. It will record your assignments and lecture notes. If you are absent, borrow the notes of a responsible classmate.
2. Your notebook will serve as a storage area for all of the handouts I give you throughout the year. You will keep all of your graded work here too. Remember, if there is a discrepancy in your grade at the end of the six-weeks, you have to prove to me that the grade should be changed.
3. Lastly, at times you will get to use your notebook on your tests.

Notebook format for Ms. Martino:
1. All notebooks will be collected before the end of the six-weeks and graded as a test grade (if you keep this notebook organized, you will receive an easy 100 points!).
2. Only 3 ring binder notebooks are practical because they allow adding material such as handouts and returned quizzes.
3. To receive a grade, a notebook must have all of the following material as specified before collection date.
4. Your notebook should be divided into the following categories in the order below by using divider tabs:

Categories for Divider Tabs:
·Class notes DATED AND LABELED and listed in chronological order.
·Graded papers such as quizzes and other miscellaneous assignments -in chronological order. This includes all graded papers except your tests. .
·Tests -in chronological order
·Novels -anything relating to any of the novels read in class-in chronological order
·Writing assignments such as essays, portfolios, short stories, etc. -in chronological order
5. All materials must be unfolded and attached to the notebook with the 3 rings (I have a 3-hole punch if you'd like to borrow it).
6. No loose collection of papers, file folders or other makeshift notebooks will be accepted.

The following scale will be used in evaluating notebooks:
I will take the total number of papers required in your notebook and divide that by lOO to determine what each assignment is worth for your notebook. For example, if you are required to have 20 papers in your notebook, I will divide 20 by 100. I would get 5. Therefore, each paper required to be in your notebook would be worth 5 points.

It is very important for you to keep all papers unless you are told they are not required for your notebook. Never throw away any assignment, handout, etc. without checking with me first.
