Target Group 1 Criteria: These students must meet the following criteria: • Final academic grades of B or above in grade 6 and 7. • FCAT scores of 375 or higher in Reading and Math or stanines of 8 or 9 in total reading and total math on a standardized test. Successful completion of the following prerequisite courses by the last day of the regular grade eight school year: • At least one year of a foreign language. • Algebra I Honors.

Target Group 2 Criteria: If a student does not meet the required standardized test score or academic grades, the admission committee will recommend one of the following: • The applicant has the potential for the program and should be placed in Target Group 2. • The applicant appears to lack potential and, therefore, does not qualify for the program. An appeal procedure exists. • All students must have completed Algebra I Honors and one year of a foreign language in a middle school to be considered for Target Group 2. All qualified applicants will be assigned a random number and chosen for the program using a lottery system. Ninety percent of the incoming 9th-grade class will be taken from Target Group 1 and 10 percent from Target Group 2.

Transportation Arterial bus transportation (buses that operate on main roads with a limited number of stops) is provided to students who live more than two miles from the school. Magnet bus stop locations may require that parents drive their children to and from the stop. |
Shadowing SPHS IB Shadowing Information Shadowing allows prospective students to experience a day of freshmen classes in the SPHS IB program. Further information is contained in the linked file. |
Application Process Workshops for Parents The Pinellas County Schools offices of Student Assignment and Advanced Studies and Academic Excellence will join forces for three workshops to help parents and students learn more about the annual application process for magnet, fundamental and career-technical programs. The workshops are scheduled from 7-8 p.m. as follows:
