Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston Dialect and figurative language
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass Diction, tone and description
Be ready to take a test on these novels when you return to school.

This selection of books is read by students statewide and voted as the best of the best to receive recognition for this list. These are the books also used for Battle of the Books competition. Get an early start and read the books and try out for Battle next year.
