Reading Counts Quizzes Available
Scholastic Reading Counts! is based on years of reading research that shows that students who read more achieve more.

Reading Counts! gets students reading on their own and provides an easy way to manage and assess their independent reading.

Reading Great Books
Students do best when they are matched to books that suit their interest and/or reading level. Reading Counts! offers many ways to guide students to the best books through Lexile Levels which can be found on the Reading Counts Quiz list.

Students can select over 7,000 different book titles from the Reading Counts! list. Reading Counts books are identified by a blue dot in our media center. After reading the book the students can go on to the computer and take a comprehension test on the book that they've read. Each quiz is randomly generated from a bank of 30 questions that test reading comprehension and vocabulary, including a variety of literacy skill areas. Students receive immediate feedback on their performance. If they do not pass a quiz, they have up to two more opportunities to review their book and re-take a quiz with newly generated questions.

Assessing Effectively
Research also shows that when students are routinely asked about what they've read, their reading achievement improves significantly. Use Scholastic Reading Counts! as a way to ask students regularly and effectively about whatever they are reading.

Recognizing Achievement
All data are captured in an easy-to-use reporting and management system. As your students complete Scholastic Reading Counts! quizzes, teachers receive automatic alerts and useful reports (through the Reading Counts! teacher Management Suite) that allow them to easily assess and monitor students' reading achievements. You'll know immediately when interventions are needed!

Reading Counts Prizes

The Media Center and PTA provides prizes for students who have points. Any student who receives 10 or more points can select froma variety of prizes. Classes that have all students who earn at least 10 points receive an ice cream party for their accomplishment. There is a middle and end of the year Reading Counts Party for students who reach their grade level goal.
