Book of the Month
book

Integrating Literacy into Character Education at School and Home.
Book of the Month is a program funded by Title 1, Book Fair, and Business Partnerships. Books have a powerful effect on children. They send strong signals to children about themselves and about others who are different from the,. The Book of the Month program was developed to build community while at the same time addressing issues of citizenship, acceptance, and other aspects of life. This is accomplished by giving all members of the community a shared experience with a well selected book. The primary goal of Book of the month is to use books to build a school-wide community that recognizes talents, celebrates diversity, acknowledges differences, and grows as citizens. The "home copy" of the book will be sent home with a letter sharing ideas of how parents can use the book with their child. The student will bring back the copy of the book, and the book will be rotated in the classroom for the month. By the end of the month all students will have the opportunity to bring home the book and share it with his or her family.
