Greeting from our Guidance Counselor
Welcome to Sawgrass! I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to all our students and parents and also introduce myself to those new to our Sawgrass family. My name is Melissa Leech, and I am the Guidance Counselor here at Sawgrass Lake Elementary. I work with your children in their classrooms, small groups, and individually.
One of our core values at Sawgrass Lake Elementary is character education. We believe that character education is the foundation for good citizenship and effective learning. Our Commitment-to-Character program emphasizes the character traits of respect, responsibility, honesty, and self-motivation. Your children will participate in this program in all aspects of their school day including classroom guidance lessons. I hope to assist all of our students as they aim for both academic and social excellence. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting you and working with your children.

Commitment to Character At Sawgrass students learn four very important words and traits that will help them be successful in life. Honesty, self-motivation, respect and responsibility are words used daily throughout the school. We encourage parents to use the same words at home to help children continue to learn, understand and apply these important character traits daily. When working with students, staff members emphasize the importance of being honest with themselves and others, feeling confident about themselves so that they are motivated to learn each day, respecting differences and knowing their responsibilities at home and at school. |
