The implementation the Spanish partial immersion model is an exciting addition to the gifted program at Ridgecrest Elementary.
Two Languages, One Journey
Ridgecrest Elementary is the site of Pinellas County’s first partial immersion program, offering a developmentally appropriate curriculum. This program is an academic program that challenges students to learn content skills in a natural way using two languages. Modeled from the many successful schools that have employed this model for decades throughout the United States and Canada, this program allows students to excel academically while naturally acquiring a second language. Cognitive and linguistics growth are assessed in both languages.

What’s a Partial Immersion Program? Children enrolled in partial immersion programs spend part of the school day learning in a second language. In a partial immersion program, subject areas are integrated into the curriculum and is presented in the second language. The second language is the medium for content instruction rather than the subject of instruction.
