Ridgecrest Elementary School   and Center for Gifted Studies

Bld13
The Center for Gifted Studies
Ridgecrest's full-time gifted program serves Pinellas County's elementary students. Pupils in grades one through five who meet state criteria for gifted may apply for the program. Blueprint 2000, developed to institute educational goals for the 21st Century, provides the framework for this new approach to learning. Gifted standards and outcomes created through the Challenge Grant and Greater Accountability in Gifted Education (GAGE) also contribute to the curriculum. Students use integrated pieces of information to develop a well-rounded approach to learning rather than basing education on isolated, often unrelated, facts. Program teachers work with the students one-on-one to help them identify their strengths and areas of need, thus enabling them to be self-directed learners while building a strong sense of accomplishment.

Admission Requirements and Performance Goals
All applicants must be interested in being enrolled in gifted classes on a full time basis.
Applicants for grade 1 (only) must have been formally evaluated with a qualifying score by the application deadline and awaiting placement.
Applicants for grades 2-5 must be identified as gifted and staffed into a gifted program with their Individual Educational Plan or Educational Plan attached to their application prior to the deadline.

Magnet Program Transportation

Magnet school bus routes have some important differences from school bus routes serving students enrolled in regular zoned schools. It may be necessary for parents to drive students to and from the bus stop. Students are to board and disembark at the same bus stop each day. Parents are responsible for providing the necessary supervision of their child(ren) at the bus stop. Parents are responsible for providing the necessary assistance and protection for their child(ren) while enroute to and from the bus stop and for complying with the school bus schedule. Students should be at the bus stop at least five minutes before the scheduled arrival time in the morning. Students are expected to comply with Pinellas County Schools' Code of Student Conduct, section 6Gx52-8.01(c), addressing student conduct on school buses. Parents, as well as their children, shall be held responsible for any vandalism attributed to their children and restitution shall be required.
