Introduction to the Ozona Physical Education Program Goals
The PE Department at Ozona Elementary recommends that quality, daily physical education be available to all children. Quality physical education is both developmentally and instructionally relevant for all children being served. Appropriate instructional practices in physical education are those, which recognize childrenˇ¦s development and changing movement abilities. Childrenˇ¦s past psychomotor (body movement), cognitive (intellect), and affective (feelings) experiences are also recognized and accommodated in developmentally appropriate instruction. We consider a variety of individual characteristics when developing units, daily lessons, and instructional strategies. Some individual characteristics include developmental status, fitness and skill levels, body size, and age.
Our program instruction incorporates the best-known practices, derived from both research and teaching experiences, into a pattern of lessons that maximizes opportunities for learning success for all of our Ozona students. Our program is accountable through an ongoing daily assessment of student learning and progress.

Program Philosophy
Our Mission Statement:
To provide all of our students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make active living a priority in their lifetime.
Program Goals:
Every student will graduate to middle school with the basic skills and fitness levels needed to participate in a variety of healthy lifestyle activities either recreationally or competitively.
All students will gain an appreciation and healthy understanding of the importance of making good lifestyle choices.
Noncompetitive Emphasis:
Our instructional program emphasizes the development of each individual child in a healthy, noncompetitive atmosphere that supports a safe, cooperative and non-threatening environment. However, competitive environments are introduced to enhance the development of teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship.
Quality and Variety:
Our planned activities offer a wide range of activities and experiences that meet the needs and interests of all of our students.
Allocated Time:
Currently, all studentsˇ¦ grades one thru five receive no less than five 30 minute period per week.

Communication Disorders Mission Statement

The mission of the Communication Disorders Program is to ensure opportunities for all students to acquire and develop skills necessary to reach their full potential as effective communicators.

My name is Karen Markopulos and I have been at Ozona Elementary as a full-time speech-language pathologist (SLP) the last four years. I graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Correction and have worked as an SLP in Pinellas County for over thirty years.
I have enjoyed working with the students in Speech and Language and admire the family involvement at Ozona. I believe that building a relationship with a child will make a difference in their life and for some, give them the incentive to succeed.

My name is Kelly Zody. I am a full time speech-language pathologist (SLP) here at Ozona Elementary. This is my fifth year working as an SLP in Pinellas County Schools. I went to the University of Florida and obtained a Bachelor of Art (B.A.) degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Go Gators!!! From there, I attended the University of South Florida and obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Speech- Language Pathology. Although my job can be challenging, it is fun, rewarding, and there's nothing more exciting than helping children succeed.

My name is Pam Santana and I am the newest member of the speech/language team. I am actually returning to Ozona, as I worked here about 7 years ago. My own 3 children attended here as well. I will be a part-time therapist also working at Cypress Woods with Pre-K children. I received my Masters of Science (M.S.) from the University of South Florida, but am also an avid Gator fan. I am so excited about being back at Ozona. Everyone has been so welcoming; I feel like I am back home!

GO NOLES!
Welcome!

Ms. Dayes
Guidance Counselor
Pinellas County School Guidance Mission Statement:
As student advocates, Professional School Counselors provide a comprehensive program that promotes student success through a focus on academic achievement, social/personal/emotional and career development.

A little about your counselor….
This is my 8th year as Ozona Elementary’s Guidance Counselor. I was born and grew up in Clearwater, Florida. I went to Florida State University for my undergraduate degree and I love the Seminoles! I received my Master’s Degree in counseling from USF. I like to spend time with my family and friends, travel, listen to music and I enjoy watching movies.

A big part of guidance at Ozona Elementary is character education. Character education emphasizes the character traits of respect, responsibility, honesty, and self-motivation. Character education also promotes the importance of other traits, for instance, friendship, conflict resolution, and cooperation.
I hope to assist all of Ozona’s students as they aim for excellence this year. I look forward to having a wonderful year working with you and your children.
