Code of Conduct-Attendance Policy
The school board of Pinellas County has guidelines that every school is expected to follow. The Attendance Policy was in the code of conduct you received in your first day packets. You can read the entire policy and changes at: http://www.pcsb.org/planning/toc1.html There are some areas that we would like to highlight so everyone is aware of the procedures and knows what is expected:
Absences: In order for a child to be counted as present for the day, the student must be in attendance for at least half of the school day.
EXCUSED ABSENCES : Students must be in school unless the absence is permitted or excused by one of the reasons listed below:
Sick , major illness in the student’s immediate family, death in the immediate family, student attends religious holiday, special events, (this must be approved by the principal prior to the absence). All of the specifics can be found in paragraph V of the student code of conduct. In order for a child to be marked as an excused absence, a note must be sent into the school or a call into our absentee line with one of excused reasons above. All other reasons will be considered unexcused.
Tardies: A student is tardy when the student is not in his or her assigned seat when the last bell rings. Habitual tardiness is unacceptable and unfair to other students because instruction is interrupted. Every 3 unexcused tardies within a grading period, will count as one unexcused absence.
Early Sign Out: Early sign out follows the same absence and excused tardy as absences in paragraph V of the code of conduct and also listed above.
Ozona Elementary has a child study team that meets monthly to review attendance records. It is our responsibility to assist by monitoring the attendance of the children. The classroom experience is of unique value and cannot be duplicated by make-up work. We need the children at school, in their seat when the bell rings ready to be engaged in learning.
