What does Title I mean for Largo Middle School? Title I is a federally funded program available at select Pinellas County schools based on the percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch. In 2009-2010 67% of students were on free or reduced lunch here.
The Largo Middle School staff met on April 14, 2010, to provide input on the following categories in regards how to use the Title budget for the 2010-2011 school year: Professional Development, Human Resources, Academic Resources, and Parental Involvement
The $207,344 budget will be spent on the following resources: hiring hourly teachers to support classroom teachers, work in small student groups, and to offer one-on-one support to students, hiring a staff reading coach, hiring a Title I facilitator, hiring a part-time technology specialist, on-site professional development, classroom materials and technology (hardware and software), and increasing parent communications, trainings, and events.

Title I Goals 1.The purpose of Title 1 is to increase highest student achievement for all students. Therefore, the funding is used school-wide to hire additional staff as well as to purchase instructional materials. The budget is aligned with the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and also provides supplementary educational services in reading and mathematics across all content areas to support students at risk of failing to meet state achievement standards.
2.The Title I budget has a component specifically assigned to increasing the parent and community involvement at a school through the School Advisory Council (SAC), the Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA), and by encouraging more adults to volunteer and mentor our students.

Title I Facilitator This is a full-time staff position responsible for the implementation, coordination, and supervision of the Title I program within the school. The facilitator works in cooperation with the principal, classroom teachers, and other school-based specialists.
The facilitator is held accountable at the school, district, and state levels to follow the guidelines of the budget. There will be a yearly audit of the facilitator for data collection of student progress on assessments (FAIR and FCAT) and academic, attendance, and discipline data (RTI), use of funds for parent involvement, school wide purchases and programs, and training as it aligns with the SIP.
For any questions about the Title I program or the budget at Largo Middle School, please contact Sarah Henderson on staff or Jana Ham at the District Title I Office (893-2988).
