The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is made up of the Principal Mrs. Baker and Assistant Principal Mrs. Hurlburt, parents, faculty, support personnel, community members, and PTA, representing our school’s ethnic, racial, and socio-economic diversity. This group is charged with assisting in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of our school improvement plan, a document that outlines goals and strategies to enhance academic excellence. The committee meets monthly and assists with activities in the interim.

When Does SAC meet? Highland Lakes Elementary SAC will be meeting in the Media Center at 7:30 a.m. during the 2011-2012 school-year on the following Thursdays:

Pinellas County has an organization that links the SACs and provides valuable guidance on their operations. Information from this organization, Pinellas SAC Association, is available at the following link: www.florida-family.net/SAC/psaca.htm Please feel free to ask questions and share your ideas and concerns with the SAC chair, HLE administration, or other members of this committee. We benefit from input from our families, teachers, and community members. All SAC meetings are open to the public and subject to Sunshine Laws.

HLE SAC Activities for the 2011-2012 Provide more information on SAC to parents and teachers by maintaining SAC section of HLE website and providing updates at PTA functions and in newsletters. Identify and access free or low-cost sources for professional development and educational materials (e.g., via FIN, FDLRS, DOE). Improve partnerships with targeted local businesses to improve involvement and support of the schools. Work closely with PTA so that funds raised are earmarked to achieve school improvement goals (e.g., conduct book drive for classroom libraries). Use data from standardized testing and surveys to drive SIP development and allocation of resources. Facilitate targeted training for parents volunteering at HLE so the parents can support and enhance teacher instruction. Coordinate parent education activities as assist administration in developing user-friendly materials for parents and teachers on topics of interest. Engage teachers more fully in SAC by inviting them to attend meetings and share their classroom activities and needs throughout the year.
