Good evening Pioneer families! Today is Sunday, May 11th.
This is our weekly parent connect to keep our families informed.

Our final PRIDE party will be a magic show on Friday, May 30th. Students who have earned 30 PRIDE passes will be able to turn them in for a ticket to the party. If your child has PRIDE passes at home, please send them to your child’s teacher in an envelope or a sandwich bag with your child’s name on it. Students who have PRIDE passes leftover, or don’t have enough to attend the party, can purchase items from our PRIDE store on Monday, June 2nd. All PRIDE passes must be turned in by June 4th.

Talent Show tickets will be on sale this week before school in front of the office. General seating is $2 and reserved seats are $4 each. Sales are cash only. The talent show is Friday, May 16th at 7:00pm and all are invited to come and support our performers. You won't want to miss the amazing drum club performance and the highly anticipated teacher's skit. Have you seen the fox?

The fifth grade field trip to Ruth Eckerd Hall is Tuesday, May 13th. Fifth graders should dress up for this performance as they will be playing their recorders with the Florida Orchestra.

This is the last week to purchase yearbooks. They will be on sale everyday this week in Ms. Hash's classroom from 8:15-8:30. The cost of the yearbook is $15.00, please send cash or checks (made payable to Garrison-Jones Elementary) in an envelope with your child's first and last name, teachers name, and grade level. The yearbook will also be sold at the Talent Show on Friday, May 16th. Thank you to everyone for supporting our yearbooks this school year.

The Student Advisory Council known as (SAC) is sending out a parent survey which can be accessed electronically on our Facebook page and on the Garrison-Jones website or your can fill out a hard copy and return to school with your child. A hard copy will be going home with the students tomorrow, Monday, May 12th. Please take a few moments to complete the survey either online or hard copy today! Your feelings and comments are important to our school community and your feedback is needed. Thank you, in advance, for your time and support of our school!

The PTA thanks all of our families for your donations during Teacher Appreciation Week. We heard many appreciative comments from our teachers and staff during the week and we thank you for your support. Our final PTA meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:30 PM in the media center. Please join us for elections for next year's officers and a wrap-up of this school year. A note to families of students who earned the limo ride for fundraising efforts; the date has changed to Monday, May 19th for this special trip. Please sign and return the new permission slip that will be sent home with your child. Thank you!

FAIR and running record assessments continue this week. Math Common Core assessments will be given on Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure your child is here on time both mornings.

During the first week of school, you reviewed the Student Code of Conduct, which included a detailed description of the dress code policy on page six. The dress code policy was reviewed with students during a Pioneer PRIDE assembly on August 23rd.

Dress Code Reminders: All shirts and blouses must cover midriff, back, sides, and all undergarments. All shirts, tops, and dresses shall have sleeves and cover the shoulders. Shorts, skirts, divided skirts, dresses and culottes are allowed. They must be mid-thigh length or longer. All trousers, pants, or shorts must totally cover undergarments, including boxer shorts. Safe and appropriate footwear must be worn. Bandanas or sweatbands are not allowed to be visible on school grounds during regular school hours. Hats or other head coverings may be worn during outside P.E. activities and may not be worn during any portion of the regular school day.

Possible Consequences: Students who do not meet the minimum requirements of the dress code will be sent to the clinic for a change of clothes and/or a phone call home to obtain clothing that meets the dress code requirements. The administration will be the final judge about whether a student’s clothing is appropriate for school. Failure to comply with the dress code will be handled similarly to other disciplinary infractions. Non-compliance may result in consequences including but not limited to detention, in-school suspension and loss of eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities.

The gate at Vanech Park closes exactly at the first bell (8:30) as the teachers have to get to their classes, and the gate opens in the afternoon at the second bell (2:50).

The Homework Helpline is available Monday through Thursday, 5:00 – 8:00, except when there is no school that day or the following day. The Helpline is staffed by Pinellas county teachers, certified in math, science, language arts, and social studies. These teachers can provide help with homework in grades 1-12, all subjects except foreign language.

The Newsroom is updated daily and includes video news and feature stories about district events and initiatives as well as positive news about the accomplishments of students and staff. The revamped site has been redesigned to be more user friendly and aims to be a “go to” source for providing timely, accurate information.
