Welcome to Garrison-Jones Elementary!
School Front 2014/2015 Weekly Connect Ed
Good evening Pioneer families! Today is Sunday, October 5th.
This is our weekly parent connect to keep our families informed.

Parents please mark your calendars for, Wednesday October 8th as we join schools across the country to celebrate National Walk to School Day. City officials, and staff are joining together on this day to teach our children how to walk & bike safely to school. We’ll gather at Vanech Park, on the morning of October 8th at 7:45 am.
Following opening remarks we’ll begin our walk to school together. GJE Student Council will be kicking off our annual can food drive at this event. Bring your donations to the park the morning of the walk or you can send them in to school with your child Oct 8th –November 8th . Remember for every 5 cans that you donate (all at once) you will receive a coupon for five pioneer day tickets. All items will be donated to the salvation army. We hope to see your family there!

The Garrison-Jones book club will be meeting weekly, starting this Monday, October 6 after school from 2:45-3:45 in the media center. The focus of this club will be reading the 10 Sunshine State Young Reader Award books for grades 3-5 in preparation for the annual county-wide Battle of the Books in the spring. All students in grades 3-5 are welcome to participate. Students must have a signed permission slip to attend. Your students may get these permission slips from their teachers or they are available in the media center. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of fun and reading!

PTA would like to thank everybody who participated in our Jets Family Pizza night. It was a great success!

PTA would also like to remind anyone that would like to volunteer for Pioneer Day to return their flyer by October 17th. We especially need volunteers for the 1:30-3:30 shift.

Be on the lookout for our new up-to-date webpage! We hope to have it up and running in the very near future.

This message will also be posted on Garrison-Jones’ web page and on our Facebook page. Thank you and have a great evening!

cat Dress Code
Please watch this brief video for more information:
During the first week of school, you reviewed the Student Code of Conduct, which included a detailed description of the dress code policy on page six. The dress code policy was reviewed with students during a Pioneer PRIDE assembly on August 23rd.

Dress Code Reminders: All shirts and blouses must cover midriff, back, sides, and all undergarments. All shirts, tops, and dresses shall have sleeves and cover the shoulders. Shorts, skirts, divided skirts, dresses and culottes are allowed. They must be mid-thigh length or longer. All trousers, pants, or shorts must totally cover undergarments, including boxer shorts. Safe and appropriate footwear must be worn. Bandanas or sweatbands are not allowed to be visible on school grounds during regular school hours. Hats or other head coverings may be worn during outside P.E. activities and may not be worn during any portion of the regular school day.

Possible Consequences: Students who do not meet the minimum requirements of the dress code will be sent to the clinic for a change of clothes and/or a phone call home to obtain clothing that meets the dress code requirements. The administration will be the final judge about whether a student’s clothing is appropriate for school. Failure to comply with the dress code will be handled similarly to other disciplinary infractions. Non-compliance may result in consequences including but not limited to detention, in-school suspension and loss of eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities.
