Eisenhower Reading Counts Reading Counts Quizzes at Eisenhower ES (Note this file is in pdf format and 107 pages in length) Reading Counts at Eisenhower ES Explained
Using the software, students generate reading lists contained in our school library based on their own Lexile level and interests. They can choose from a wide variety of topics, including animals, sports, science fiction, history, humor, and more!
Students choose a book labeled as a Reading Counts book from the Eisenhower ES Media Center. After reading the book, the student takes a computer-generated quiz. A personalized congratulations screen appears for passing the quiz. The student earns varying numbers of points for each quiz passed. The student is allowed to choose a prize after earning a specified number of points. The number of points needed to earn a prize is based on the student’s grade level. If a student does not pass a quiz, he or she can revisit the book and retake a quiz with a different set of questions.
Parents may use the Reading Counts book list (link) above for students to find books at the public library to be read at home in order to take quizzes at school.
The Reading Counts system provides up-to-the-minute, data-driven reports that help inform the classroom teacher with differentiated instruction. The reports additionally let teachers know when a student is struggling and needs intervention. The reports fully address adequate yearly progress (AYP) requirements.
