Fundamental-type Program at DHMS The SCOTS Program is similar to fundamental programs with the advantage of being located in the neighborhood school. A back-to-basics approach is used with an emphasis on personal responsibility and parental involvement.
Students applying for the SCOTS Program are typically self-motivated and exhibit good discipline and citizenship. SCOTS students consistently make school work/homework a priority, they accept personal responsibility for their school experience, they are well-behaved, and have excellent school attendance. Parental involvement is expected and parents are required to sign a contract in support of the SCOTS program guidelines and all parental expectations. |

Contact Mrs. Huzar The Fundamental-type (SCOTS) program is intended for non-ESE students. Those students who have been successfully mainstreamed for at least one semester immediately prior to applying to the program will be considered. Those students with 504 plans must have their plans reviewed by the program administrator before being accepted into the program. The 504 plan must accompany the application form. Students with 504 plans are expected to adhere to the program guidelines.
Enrollment numbers each year may limit the number of openings for SCOTS classes at each grade level. The acceptance of new applicants is also based on the recommendation of the child’s previous teacher(s). Consideration is given to students currently enrolled in the SCOTS program. When necessary, a lottery will be used to determine student selection. A waiting list will be maintained to fill additional openings that may occur during the school year. Due to the scheduling of fundamental-type (SCOTS) classes and the requirements of the state, not all electives may be available to SCOTS students. |
