Dunedin Highland Middle School

Center for Gifted Studies

Gifted 1
Inquiry Based Learning
The DHMS Center for Gifted Studies is designed to meet the unique academic and social/emotional needs of adolescent gifted students. A challenging and rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum is delivered through instructional strategies that promote creative, critical and complex thinking. Personal strengths and interests are developed through differentiated instruction, independent study and extracurricular activities. Inquiry and investigation is used as students address relevant, real-world problems.

The full-time gifted program is delivered in the core subjects of mathematics, English, science and social studies. Elective courses are offered to meet the interests and learning needs of gifted students.

The Middle School Center for Gifted Studies opened to 6th graders in the 2009-2010 school year. For 2010-11, the gifted magnet will be available for sixth and seventh grade students. Eighth grade will be added in 2011-2012. Students applying must meet all state requirements for gifted placement and have a gifted Educational Plan.
