Each of these activities meets outside of school hours to practice and compete. Participation in extracurricular activities can be a satisfying and rewarding part of your child's middle school experience.

All students in grades 6-8 must take a PE class for one semester each school year. This requirement may be waived in some instances. Please click here for more information.

Requirements for Participation

Students who are participating in extracurricular sports (volleyball, basketball, track, and cheerleading) are required to have a school physical & school accident insurance prior to trying out for the sport (see below).

In order to participate in extracurricular activities, students must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. In addition, behavior at school must be satisfactory to excellent. All students are expected to maintain these standards throughout the school year and not just during the time of extracurricular participation.

Tyouts for these activities occur at the following times:

Cheerleading: Early-September
Basketball: Mid-October
Track: February

Student Accident Insurance

All students participating in extracurricular activities are REQUIRED to purchase Student Accident Insurance, per Pinellas County School Board policy. This insurance is required of ALL participants, whether covered by a major medical policy or not. There are several different options for coverage. Students who are already covered by a health plan may opt to have a low option coverage; however, the student accident insurance coverage is mandatory. To access the student insurance website and purchase student insurance for your child, click on the link to the right.

Students are also required to have a school physical prior to partcipation in school acitivities. This physical must have been completed within the last 12 months. School physicals are offered at a nominal cost at the beginning of the school year. Information will be sent home on the first day of school.
