Welcome to
AMI Kids Pinellas

Program Description
AMI Kids Pinellas is a Department of Juvenile Justice (Circuit VI) contracted program serving youth 14-18 years of age who have been adjudicated delinquent, expelled from Pinellas County Schools, or who have repeatedly violated School Board Policy. High interest marine activities are used to complement the school curriculum and give students hands-on experiences.

There are two programs at AMI Kids Pinellas:

• A day treatment program for thirty-five (35) males or females.
• A low risk conditional release program for thirty (30) males or females.

Student Admission Procedures
Students must be referred by DJJ, the courts, or the directors of school operations for Pinellas County Schools. Students and their parents have a personal interview with the AMI executive director or AMI staff. Students are accepted into the program on a space-available basis. Upon acceptance, the student’s education plan is developed by the dropout prevention teachers and the student is enrolled in courses. Conditional release students must have a notification form completed prior to program entry.

Exceptional Education students have an IEP review and update through the appropriate district procedure.

Specific Eligibility Criteria
Department of Juvenile Justice adjudicated youth, students expelled from Pinellas County Schools, students who have repeatedly violated School Board policy, or conditional release youth who require on-site transition services may be eligible for the program.

Limited English proficient (LEP) students meeting program eligibility criteria shall have equal access to the program. When a LEP student is served in the program, curriculum and related services will be designed to appropriately address the needs of LEP students in order to ensure that the instruction is understandable. An LEP review will occur prior to this placement and dropout prevention staff will be present at the review.

Exceptional students who meet the program eligibility criteria will be considered for placement. An IEP review will occur prior to this placement and dropout prevention staff will be present at the review.
