Seventy-Fourth Street Elementary School

Title I Information
100 book challenge What is Title I?
Contact Susan Herzig, Title 1 Contact, for information.
Title I is a federally funded program available to select schools, based on the percentage of students eligible for free and reduced lunch. Title I funds are supplemental to district funds given to schools and are to be used to increase student achievement.
In Pinellas County, Title I serves all students and families in eligible public elementary schools through schoolwide programs that provide additional instructional staff and other resources. Title I also allocates funds to provide equitable services for eligible elementary students and their families in identified non-public schools in the district. For a complete list of Pinellas County schools served by Title I, visit www.pcsb.org.

Seventy-Fourth Street Elementary supports the Title I requirements below:
*develop jointly with parents a written Parent Involvement Policy.
*hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in the Title I program and their rights to be involved in the school, and about the requirements of Title I.
*jointly develop with parents a school-parent compact. The compact must state how parents, the entire school staff and students will share in the responsibility for improved student achievement and must be discussed during a parent/teacher conference.
*provide staff training on parent involvement.
*provide training and materials to help parents work with their children.
*provide timely information to parents about the Title I program.
*provide (if requested) an opportunity for regular meetings to allow parents to participate (as appropriate) in decisions about their child’s education and respond to suggestions.
*offer flexible meeting times.
*ensure that information sent to parents is in a format and language, to the extent practicable, that parents can understand.
*coordinate with other agencies/programs.

The Partnership Center
The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school team made up of the principal, school staff members, parents and community members. Each school must have a SAC. Its role is to plan for and promote highest student achievement in the school. Each year the SACs in Title I schools review and offer input into their individual school improvement plans, school parent involvement policies, parent-student-school compacts for learning and how funds are used to support highest student achievement. Our SAC meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.

The District Advisory Council (DAC) is a district team made up of the Title I family education specialist, the schoolwide instructional coach and parent representatives from each Title I school, and other Title I and district personnel. Its role is to plan for and promote highest student achievement for students in the Title I schools. Each year the DAC works to review and offer input into the District Parent Involvement Policy and the Annual Title I Parent Survey. The group is kept informed about the Title I program at the district, state and national levels. It also participates in workshops that will support the learning of students at home. DAC members share this information with their individual school staffs and families. DAC meets three times a year from 10-11:30 a.m. at various school district sites.

To learn more about SAC or DAC, contact the schoolwide Title 1 Person, Susan Herzig.
