Dear Family,

Hello! I am Elizabeth Snider. I will be your child’s second/third grade teacher. I am excited to have your student in my class. This will be my third year teaching and I am ready for an exciting and productive year. I am anxious to meet you and to get to know your child. I encourage you to call me or to come by to discuss your child’s education.

If you would like to talk with me, you may call me at 588-3519. I am available to take your calls from 7:00-7:30 a.m. or from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Or between the hours of 7:30-2:00, you can leave a message on my voicemail (ext. 167) and I will return your call. If you would like to schedule an appointment to meet with me I am available before and after school. I always welcome input from the parents and would be happy to meet with you. Please do not hesitate to let me know anything that will help me to better educate your son/daughter. Attached to this page is a form that I would appreciate it if you would fill it out. It is a simple questionnaire that tells me when and how is best to contact you. I feel open communication between home and school is essential to every child’s learning. For this reason, I will be giving you my cell phone number and asking for a daytime phone number from each of our parents. You may always reach me on my cell. While I will not interrupt a lesson to answer the phone, I will call you back as soon as I complete my instruction.

I encourage parents to play an active role in the education of their student. For this reason, I invite parents to sit in on class. I like to make your time spent with us as comfortable as possible, so I ask that you call and let me know what day you would like to come. By calling ahead, I can make sure that the number of visitors in the class is minimal and that the students are aware you will be joining us. This allows for fewer disruptions and makes it possible for you to see your child’s learning in progress.

I will be sending home newsletters periodically to keep you informed about our class and your child’s progress or achievements. The newsletter will be collaboration between myself and my students and may feature articles written by your child. If at anytime you have something about your child (or that is pertinent to this class) and you would like to share with other students and parents, please get it to me so that I may include it in the newsletter. I have a personal website set up that will information to keep parents up to date with all aspects of my students’ education. Parents and students may visit my web page at www.ryanrecord.com.

Attached to this page is a link to the Contingency Contract that I have reviewed with my students and asked them to sign. This contract is an agreement between each student individually and myself. The purpose of the contract is to ensure that each child understands and agrees to abide by this classroom’s rules, policies and procedures. The contract list all rules, policies and procedures as well as discussing consequences for any breach of contract. The contract also explains the token system that will be utilized as a method of rewarding positive behavior and establishing consequences for negative behavior.

As I previously stated, I am very excited about this school year. I am thrilled to be your child’s IVE teacher. I look forward to getting to know you and my students. I look forward to working with you and providing your child with the best possible education.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Snider
