Art Mission Statement |
The Mission of this art class is to learn about art. We will practice our art skills, study art in different cultures and art history.
We can meet these goals by:
1. Following our ground rules.
2. Respecting others and art equipment.
3. Doing our best and being self-motivated.
4. Being honest.
5. Working together.
6. Staying responsible and calm.
Our Mission is very important so we can have an effective, fun school year! |
In Art This Year |
This year your child has been part of an exciting visual arts program. Students in art class have and continue to:
* Explore great art, artists, and cultures of the world. * Develop skills to understand and appreciate artwork.
* Participate in the creative process.
* Participate in critical thinking skills by studying their own and other's artwork.
The arts play an important role in education. The arts introduce students to ways of thinking that are based on imagination and judgment. They encourage students to think and learn in a variety of ways. As a family, you can help your child appreciate the visual arts in many ways - visit a museum together, share family mementos, and create your own artworks. Talk to your child about art and ask questions about his/her art. You both will be enriched by the experience. |
Did You Know? |
Young people who participate in the arts for at least three hours on three days each week through at least one full year are:
4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within our schools 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance 4 times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem
The facts are that an art education makes a tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the "learning field" across socioeconomic boundaries. It also has a measurable impact on youth at risk in deterring delinquent behavior and truancy problems while also increasing overall academic performance among those youth engaged in after school and summer arts programs targeted toward delinquency prevention.
