HOW MUCH HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED?
Assignments are most often completed during our Geography class periods. If a student is absent or is not able to complete the assignments during class time, the student is expected to complete them at home or at the public library. At times, homework will be assigned to study for tests or for other important reasons.

We expect students to have their parent sign their planner nightly. Parents are encouraged to look to see if a teacher wrote in the planner, when upcoming events and tests are scheduled, require their child to write in every box every day. If there is no HW scheduled, require them to write "No HW". If a parent writes in the planner to a staff member, it is the student's responsibility to show the note to the teacher. If there is not a signature and/or comment written by the note, you can assume the student did not ahow it to the teacher.

+ Homework is completed at home.

+ Homework develops independent self-disciplined learners & increases academic achievement by preparation, practice, extension, or creativity.

+ Preparation homework helps prepare for future lessons and tests.

+ Practice homework provides review and reinforcement.

+ Extension homework expands upon Social Studies concepts.

+ Creative homework is inventive and helps develop ideas related to a topic.

+ A variety of homework meets diverse learning styles.

+ Points are deducted from late work.

+ Classwork/homework assignments are listed on chalkboards to assist absentees.

+ Planners are used each period and taken home daily.

+ Call the Homework Helpline: 588-6418.

WHY SHOULD WE MEET EXPECTATIONS?

Nice & polite OMS people value education. We’ll have more fun, probably get better grades, receive special awards, receive special privileges, make our classroom a nicer place, & learn about the world in which we live. OMS has a behavioral
system for consequences and is posted.
We try to work out any issues in class.

COMMUNICATE any “issues” before they
become problems by talking, using the
issue bin, asking your parent to call me, or by leaving a message at my extension:
547-7689 extension 434. The best way for parents to reach is by email:
johnsondo@pcsb.org.
The easiest way to reach me is through Portal.

WHAT ARE EXPECTED OMS BEHAVIORS? WHY SHOULD WE MEET EXPECTATIONS?
Responsible, respectful, pleasant behaviors are required.

No one is a spectator:

+ participate, listen,
+ read carefully,
+ complete and turn in assignments on time, and do your best.
