Our Sixth Graders Have Character...
| | Character Education, that is!! |

| | What you say and what you believe are important, but it's what you DO that defines your character. | |
| | Actions speak louder than words! | Does each of your friends have these traits? 1. Thinks of others' feelings. 2. Sees the good in others. 3. Lends a helping hand. 4. Cares about people. 5. Has the guts to do the right thing. 6. Puts their "best foot' forward. ************************************************************ Can your friends and family describe you in these ways? |
| |
| | CharACTer is how you ACT | Share. Listen. Take Turns. Compromise. Show appreciation. Make people feel needed. Encourage others to do well. |
| | Aspire to climb as high as you can dream! | |
| | Words to Live By | |
| | "When we all work together, we all win together." | | |
| | YOU must be the change you wish to see in the world. -- Mahatma Gandhi | | Have you thought about how you change "your world" around you already? |
| | How would someone describe your character? | |
| | From where do you draw your strength? | |
| | "Courage comes from a reserve of mind much more powerful than outside circumstances." | |
| | Stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone. | |
| | "We are perfectly imperfectly designed," a first period student said 11/14/05. | |
| | Are you a "Hero of the Day" at OMS? | |
| | "What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." | | Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings. Samuel Johnson |
| | "Have a great day!! Go out and make it that way!", Mrs. Johnson says after every class. When we change our thoughts, we can then change our attude and therefore perform positive actions. | |
| | Positive powerful thoughts can turn to positive powerful actions. | |
| | Faith comes in many forms. | | You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty the ocean does not become dirty. ---Mahatma Gandhi |
| | Commitment is what transforms a promise into reality." -- Abraham Lincoln | |
| | Peaceful people are happy people and they seem to make the world a better place. | |
| | Blue Mountains, Australia | "Anyone who thinks the sky is the limit has limited imagination."
| | "Until you spread your wings, you'll have no idea how far you can fly." | | "Those who follow the crowd will never be followed by it." |
| | "There is in this world no greater force than the force of a man determined to rise." | |
| | "It is not the position you stand, but the direction in which your look." | |
| | Teamwork can lead to accomplishments while having fun at the same time! | |
| | Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love." ----Tao Te Ching---- | |
| | "There is in this world no greater force than the force of a man determined to rise." | |
| | Take care of your pets. Keep trying. Be accountable. Do your chores. | | Think about what it takes to be responsible in your class. * 1. Accept the challenge to complete assignments, keep them in your SS folder, turn them in on time, record your grade on your grade sheet and keep them in your portfolio to show growth. * 2. Bring your supplies to class and take them out when the period is over. * 3. Prepare for each class and discussions. * 4. Friends can count on responsible people. ++What are some other ways to show reponsiblity in school? |
| | The truth is the right answer or action. | |
| | The only time you will find success before work is in the dictionary. | |
| | "It is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it – but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor." | Great minds have purposes, others have wishes. Washington Irving US essayist, historian, & novelist (1783 - 1859) |
| | "Have courage and follow your own path." | All Fords are exactly alike, but no two men are just alike. Every new life is a new thing under the sun; there has never been anything just like it before, never will be again. A young man ought to get that idea about himself; he should look for the single spark of individuality that makes him different from other folks, and develop that for all he is worth. Society and schools may try to iron it out of him; their tendency is to put it all in the same mold, but I say don't let that spark be lost; it is your only real claim to importance. Henry Ford US automobile industrialist (1863 - 1947) At OMS we strive for an individual's best. |

These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you. Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that. |

| | Source: "ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN" by Robert Fulghum. Click her to see his web site: | Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we. And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living. Take any one of those items and extrapolate it into sophisticated adult terms and apply it to your family life or your work or government or your world and it holds true and clear and firm. Think what a better world it would be if we all - the whole world - had cookies and milk at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon and then lay down with our blankies for a nap. Or if all governments had as a basic policy to always put things back where they found them and to clean up their own mess. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out in the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together. |
