Volunteer Opportunities Available |
TUTOR Tutors provide structured help in order to: 1. Help a student master basic reading and math skills 2. Reinforce course work (language arts, science, social studies, etc.) 3. Reinforce study skills.
MENTOR Mentors may help with homework or missed class work, encourage attendance, tutor, listen to student problems and help them find solutions. The mentor will work with the student to use existing services in the school. The mentor will be a role model for the student, demonstrating values of punctuality, and reliability and will help the student appreciate the importance of education, both personally and professionally.
CLASSROOM ASSISTANT Assigments may include: 1. Assisting with special projects 2. Assisting teachers in supervising students on field trips 3. Operating audio-visual equipment 4. Assisting with clerical duties-record keeping, filing, duplicating, and collecting money for field trips. 5. Making instructional materials 6. Assisting with testing 7. Preparing bulletin boards 8. Reviewing materials with students who have been absent from class.
LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER VOLUNTEER Assignments may include: 1. Assisting with the circulation and processing of materials 2. Manning circulation desk, checking books in and out, writing overdue notices 3. Shelving books, mending books 4. Typing bibliographies, book orders, overdue lists, etc. 5. Responding to requests for service from teachers and students, as needed 6. Assisting with audio-visual materials.
BUILDING AND GROUNDS VOLUNTEER Assignments may include: 1. Assisting the Plant Operator with daily routines. 2. Basic to advanced gardening chores. 3. Facility upgrades.
OFFICE/CLERICAL VOLUNTEER Assignments may include: 1. Typing 2. Filing 3. Photocopying 4. Mailings 5. Telephone or switchboard 6. Messages and errands |
